Martin Hoogendoorn is partner at Ernst & Young Accountants and professor of Financial Accounting at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. At Ernst & Young he is directly involved in the practical compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Dutch GAAP. At the Erasmus University he teaches at the postgraduate courses to become Registeraccountant and Registercontroller. He is also a part-time judge at the Amsterdam Business Court (Ondernemingskamer).

He has written a number of articles and books. His Ph.D was on Changing in accounting principles in financial statements. Furthermore, he is chairman of the editorial board of Maandblad voor Accountancy en Bedrijfseconomie, the leading Dutch language academic journal on accounting, auditing and control. Until 1 January 2007 he was chairman of the Dutch Accounting Standards Board (Raad voor de Jaarverslaggeving).
