Robert Jelly joined CIMA in 2000, and as the director for education
is responsible for leading a permanent rolling review of our
qualification to ensure that it remains the premier international
qualification of choice for business.
Robert studied accounting and economics at the University of
Strathclyde, Glasgow. On leaving university he worked for Touche
Ross as a trainee chartered accountant and was admitted as a member
of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in 1975.
Following on from his role as a management accountant with ICI,
Robert established a long career in higher education. Before joining
CIMA, Robert was head of Dundee Business School, where his teaching
focused on management accounting and financial management, with
research on accounting for brands. His consultancy activity while at
Dundee included work for the Central Bank of Mauritius and a United
Nations-sponsored project in Lesotho.
In May 2004 Robert was appointed a visiting professor in management
accounting at the University of Geneva, Switzerland teaching an MBA
programme designed for people working or planning to work for the
International Agencies base in Geneva.
In 2005 he was appointed UK technical director to the IFAC International Accounting Education Standards Board (formerly the IFAC Education Committee).
