Robert Jelly joined CIMA in 2000, and as the director for education is responsible for leading a permanent rolling review of our qualification to ensure that it remains the premier international qualification of choice for business.

Robert studied accounting and economics at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. On leaving university he worked for Touche Ross as a trainee chartered accountant and was admitted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in 1975.

Following on from his role as a management accountant with ICI, Robert established a long career in higher education. Before joining CIMA, Robert was head of Dundee Business School, where his teaching focused on management accounting and financial management, with research on accounting for brands. His consultancy activity while at Dundee included work for the Central Bank of Mauritius and a United Nations-sponsored project in Lesotho.

In May 2004 Robert was appointed a visiting professor in management accounting at the University of Geneva, Switzerland teaching an MBA programme designed for people working or planning to work for the International Agencies base in Geneva.

In 2005 he was appointed UK technical director to the IFAC International Accounting Education Standards Board (formerly the IFAC Education Committee).
