Dr. Pekdemir is a Professor of Accounting at the School of Business at Istanbul University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Accountancy from Istanbul University in 1990. He joined Istanbul University in 1983 as graduate assistant, and visited as visiting scholar to the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign 1988 to 1989, and also 1998.

Dr. Pekdemir’s research interests include international accounting and empirical financial accounting research. His published work includes more than 20 books and numerous journal articles. He made speeches and presentations in the local and international events Dr. Pekdemir’s editorial service recently includes the editorial advisory board of Accounting Education: an International Journal, Research in Accounting Regulation, and some other journals related to accountancy in Turkish.

Dr. Pekdemir has been Chairman of the 17th World Congress of Accountants in 2006, Chairman of the 10th World Congress of Accounting Educators in 2006. He has been an active person for the Turkish Accounting Profession. He has been called an international soldier of the Turkish Accountancy. Since 1993, he has been a senior advisor for the Turkish Accounting Organizations. He served as president and also board member of the EAAT Expert Accountants’ Association of Turkey. He also served as board member of the Turkish Telecom, Inc., as Advisor for the Turkish Prime Ministry, as a special expert of the UNDP Project for the Turkish Health Ministry, a consultant for SMEs in Turkey. He is a member of the AAA and the EAA. In addition, he served as a Technical Advisor on the Education Committee of IFAC International Federation of Accountants, as a Technical Advisor on the Developing Nations Committee of IFAC, as a Member of the PAIB Professional Accountants in Business Committee of IFAC.
