Mike Walsh is the Director - Special Assignments of ACCA based in London. During his time at the Association he has been Head of Technical Services; ACCA’s first Head of Practice Regulation, in which he set up the Association as a Recognized Professional Body under the terms of the UK’s Financial Services Act; Director of Education, in which he was responsible for all ACCA’s education and training activities. During this time he put in a new and revised professional syllabus based on International Accounting and Auditing Standards together with the required IT systems. More recently, he has taken on a project management role. He launched ACCA’s new technician qualification, its internet site and its new members journal called Accounting & Business.

He is a member of the United Nations Consultative Group on a Global Accounting Qualification, which reports to the Secretary General of UNCTAD, and devised the global accountancy qualifications benchmark published in 1999.

He is currently the Education Consultant to the International Federation of Accountants (FAC) where he is drafting International Education Standards for Professional Accountants. He is also one of the two UK Technical Advisors on the IFAC Education Committee.

He is on the Steering Committee of the Global accountancy education project, being conducted at European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management.

He has conducted projects for the World Bank in Africa and for OECD in the Balkans.
