Second Cohort of the IAAER ACCA
Early Career Researcher Development Program Announced

On February 3, 2025, the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) launched the second cohort of the Early Career Researcher Development Program (ECRDP) by naming 13 associate and assistant professors from Croatia, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Turkey to participate in the program. The program will run for 2025-2026 and consist of, inter alia, at least two events per year. The first event for the second cohort will be a virtual workshop addressing Qualitative Research Methods run by Professor Lisa Baudot of HEC Paris on February 10, 2025. A second workshop for the Scholars will be hosted by Prague University of Economics and Business on May 21, 2025 immediately prior to the university’s ACFA conference (May 22-23).
IAAER faculty will supervise the program and provide training and mentorship opportunities. The IAAER ACCA ECRDP is designed to support the Scholars’ exposure to internationally recognized accounting researchers, best practices in accounting and accounting-related education and research and becoming part of a global peer network.

Launch of ACCA IAAER Scholars Program 2022 – First Cohort
On 30 April 2022, the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants launched the ACCA IAAER Scholars Program naming five associate and assistant professors from Brazil, Kenya, Poland and UAE as the program’s inaugural scholars.
IAAER mentors have been assigned to support each scholar to support his/her exposure to internationally recognized accounting scholars, best practices in accounting and accounting-related education and research and becoming part of a global peer network.
Ongoing mentorship is a key component of the ACCA IAAER Scholars Program. The five Scholars and their mentors are:
- Dr. Karol Marek Klimczak, PhD, Associate Professor of Management at Lodz University of Technology, Poland. (Mentor Dr. Kenneth Merkley, PhD, Indiana University)
- Dr. Habil. Joanna Krasodomska, PhD, Associate Professor Department of Financial Accounting Cracow University of Economics, Poland. (Mentor Dr. Leslie Hodder, PhD, Indiana University)
- Dr. David Mathuva, PhD, Senior Lecturer and Director, Undergraduate Programmes Strathmore University Business School, Kenya. (Mentor Dr. Elizabeth Gordon, PhD, Temple University)
- Dr. Raquel Sarquis PhD, Assistant Professor University of São Paulo, Brazil. (Mentor Dr. Katherine Schipper, PhD, Duke University)
- Dr. Mohamed Aminu Sualihu, PhD, Assistant Professor of Accounting College of Business Zayed University, UAE. (Mentor Dr. Patrick Hopkins, PhD, Indiana University)
The ACCA IAAER Scholars Program is coordinated by IAAER’s Director of Research and Educational Activities Dr. Donna Street, PhD, University of Dayton.
The ACCA IAAER Scholars are appointed for two years and, due to the financial support of ACCA, will attend IAAER conferences, workshops, etc., including the IAAER World Congress of Accounting Educators and Researchers to be hosted by IESEG at is Paris Campus 1-2 December 2022.
The long-term goal of the ACCA IAAER Scholars program is to grow the research and teaching skills capacity of accounting scholars in emerging and transitional economies.

Krakow: In conjunction with an IAAER and Krakow University of Economics conference, IAAER ran a workshop for three of the five ACCA IAAER Scholars on December 10, 2023. Mentor presentations for the emerging scholars included:

Atlanta: In conjunction with the IAAER and AAA IAS joint conference in Atlanta during January 2024, IAAER ran a workshop for three of the ACCA IAAER Scholars. Joanna Krasodomska, Raquel Sarquis and Karol Marek Klimczak each presented a research proposal and received valuable feedback from the IAAER mentors in attendance. Mentors in attendance included Katherine Schipper, Holger Daske, Merkley, and Donna Street. This first cohort of Scholars also participated in the IFAC IAAER Roundtable held in conjunction with the conference. The Roundtable centered around preparing accountants and auditors for the evolving landscape of sustainability reporting and assurance.
